We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous individual to join our discovery research team as a Research Associate I or II reporting to the Associate Director of RNA Biology.  The position will focus on mRNA synthesis and supporting in vitro/in vivo studies.  The position will also contribute to process improvements and assays development.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on synthesis, purification, and characterization synthetic mRNAs, in parallel, for fast progression of programs
  • Support programs by developing and using assays such as ELISA, western blot, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis
  • Enhance stability and potency of mRNA through novel construct designs
  • Maintain cells in culture and perform cell-based assays
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clear communication of scientific findings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field (e.g. cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical or biomedical engineering, biotechnology)
  • 0-4 years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience
  • Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and to efficiently solve problems
  • Attention to detail & meticulous record keeping

Preferred experience and skills

  • Hands-on experience with mRNA production and characterization, RNase-free best precautions, nucleic acids therapeutic platforms
  • Protein biochemistry: e.g. tissue preparation, western blot (Licor), immunoassays, enzyme kinetics, HPLC
  • Molecular biology: e.g. capillary electrophoresis (Fragment Analyzer or Bioanalyzer), qPCR, gel electrophoresis
  • Lab automation and liquid handling experience
  • Tissue culture: cell line maintenance, transfection optimization, sample prep
