Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced scientific leader to oversee pharmacology research and operations for our liver therapeutic division. The role will focus principally on advancing mRNA therapeutic candidates through discovery and preclinical stages for the treatment of severe diseases of the liver and biliary system. This will include designing and conducting pharmacodynamic and efficacy studies in relevant animal models. The candidate should have experience working with external CROs while also bringing managerial experience that can be immediately applied towards establishing and supervising an internal liver pharmacology team with requisite specialization in the areas of focus.

Job Responsibilities
  • Leading the liver pharmacology team
  • Managing internal/external operations for successful execution of all in-life studies supporting liver programs
  • Serving as scientific program lead on key preclinical programs
  • Partnering with biology, DMPK, program management, and other internal functions, as well as external collaborators and consultants, to achieve research milestones culminating in successful IND-filings
  • Generating robust, thoughtful data to enable decision making and innovation
  • Presenting plans, progress, and risks
  • Providing scientific perspective on new targets and opportunities
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in pharmacology or a closely related field 
  • 8+ years of productive experience in the pharma/biotech industry with an emphasis on hepatobiliary research particularly in areas of rare genetic diseases, cholestasis, acute liver failure, liver transplantation, or NASH. 
  • Experience with gene therapy, particularly mRNA, and/or lipid nanoparticle vehicles highly preferred 
  • Experience working with rodents and NHPs with proper study conduct, IACUC and SOP compliance. Technical knowledge gained from hands on experience with basic procedures and more advanced surgical techniques preferred. 
  • Experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct report(s) 
  • Experience coordinating and engaging with CROs with ability to build
  • relationships.  
  • Demonstratable understanding of liver metabolism, comparative anatomy, clinical biomarkers of injury, and drug uptake in hepatocytes and other cells of the liver. Knowledge of serum protein binding, complement activation, and mechanisms of accelerated blood clearance preferred. 
  • Creative ability to develop novel methods for assessing target engagement, downstream pharmacodynamics, and modes of action. 
  • Eager and highly resourceful with sound judgement. Takes a proactive approach to troubleshooting. Excited to work in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
