Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous candidates to lead from the bench as a Scientist/Senior Scientist in the RNA Sciences Team. The position will focus on plasmid scale up, plasmid characterization and supporting the Translate Bio programs and collaborations. The position will be highly collaborative and give the successful candidate a broad range of experience across functions within the organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and implement a robust fermentation system for large scale plasmid growth, extraction and purification.
  • Development and execution of large scale plasmid linearization and purification processes
  • Generate and optimize seed train, harvest and cell lysis/clarification
  • Resource raw materials including buffers, media and other reagents for fermentation
  • Manage and mentor staff to build a highly functional plasmid scale up team
  • Support Translate Bio projects/collaborations by providing plasmid DNA in a timely manner
  • Independently design and execute decision-quality research, draft SOPs, reports and batch records
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders
  • This will be primarily a lab-based position
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in a related field (e.g. Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology) and a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) or a B.S. with a minimum 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and to efficiently solve problems
  • Attention to detail & meticulous record keeping
  • Must be proficient in E. coli culture, fermentation (1L to >30L) and cell banking strategies
  • Hands on experience in upstream and downstream development of plasmid fermentation including process optimization and characterization to improve product yields
  • Experience in characterization and analytical method development relevant to plasmid DNA is a plus
  • Expertise in equipment setup, troubleshooting and maintenance is mandatory and experience in GLP/GMP environment is advantageous
  • Knowledge in different cloning techniques, primer design, PCR, qPCR, capillary & gel electrophoresis, and Sanger sequence data analysis is strongly preferred
