Translate Bio is seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous individual to join our Research team as a Senior Research Associate. The position will report to the associate director of RNA biology and will focus on mRNA synthesis and characterization.  The position will also contribute to process improvements and assays for biological studies.


  • Support mRNA production for mRNA drug targets including: high throughput batch production, characterization, optimization of mRNA processes
  • Focus on synthesis, purification, and characterization of wide range of mRNA constructs, in parallel, for fast progression of programs
  • Enhance stability and potency of mRNA through novel construct designs
  • Provide accurate and reproducible execution of analytical characterization for full release panel for mRNA drug substance
  • Support programs developing and using biological assays such as ELISA, western blot, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations for clear communication of scientific findings


  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field (e.g. cell or molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical or biomedical engineering, biotechnology)
  • 5-10 years of pharmaceutical/biotech experience
  • Hands-on experience with mRNA production and characterization preferred, RNase-free best precautions, nucleic acids therapeutic platforms
  • Deep understanding of process (synthesis & purification) optimization demonstrated by experience designing matrixed experiments and subsequent analytical methods
  • Understanding of mRNA sequence features and optimization
  • Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and to efficiently solve problems
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational, record-keeping, and communication skills

Preferred experience and skills

  • Lab automation and liquid handling experience
  • Molecular biology: e.g. capillary electrophoresis, qPCR, gel electrophoresis
  • Tissue culture: cell line maintenance, transfection optimization, sample prep
  • Protein biochemistry: e.g. western blot (Licor), immunoassays, enzyme kinetics, HPLC
  • Vendor management and outsourcing
